Synopsis: New York’s Finest February 14, 2015 LADIES AND GENTS! I have an announcement! You know that guy I featured on my blog a few months ago? The really, really hot Irish rugby player who plays the position of ‘hooker’ in the RLI (Rugby League International)? The one with the questionable fashion choices leading me to ask whether he was the lovechild of a leprechaun and a hobbit? The one with the anger management issues and the body of a gladiator and the face of a movie star? Ronan Fitzpatrick? Yeah, that guy. Well, I have a confession to make… THE HERMIT Annie Catrel, social media expert extraordinaire at Davidson & Croft Media and clandestine celebrity blogger, can make anyone shine in the court of public opinion. She is the Socialmedialite, anonymous creator of New York’s Finest and the internet’s darling. Virtual reality is Annie’s forte, but actual reality? Not so much. THE HOOKER Ronan Fitzpatrick, aka the best hooker the world of rugby has seen in decades, despises the media—social or otherwise. The press has spun a web of lies depicting him as rugby’s wild and reckless bad boy. Suspended from his team, Ronan has come to Manhattan to escape the drama, lay low, fly under the radar. Only, Ronan isn’t easy to overlook, and he can’t escape the notice of the Socialmedialite… THE PLAN When Ronan is sent to Davidson & Croft Media to reshape his public image, he never expects to cross paths with shy but beautiful Annie, nor does he expect his fierce attraction to her. He couldn’t be happier when her boss suggests pairing them together. What lengths will Annie take to keep her virtual identity concealed? And what happens when the hooker discovers who the hermit really is? The Hooker and the Hermit is a collaboration between authors L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid, is a full length 100k word novel, and is a standalone.

I couldn't wait to see the dynamic at these to talented authors would create. Would their fictional offspring (so to speak) be everything I was expecting? Or a completely new creation? The answer: a little of both. Some elements were the same. The characterization was just as detailed. The plot was fresh and unpredictThe writing fit together flawlessly just as I'd suspected. But the light kink was definitely unexpected-you won't hear any complaints from this reader though. And the plot went deeper than a simple celebrity athlete meeting the average girl.

I'm going to start with the heroine, Annie.

Where do I even begin? She had so many lovable traits and even some flaws which some might perceive as weakness. People are quick to leap to the "weak heroine" label and there are probably going to be some that aren't happy with her flaws. She's unable to trust, her self-esteem has been hit hard in her childhood and never completely recovered. She's unable to function in society. But just as Penny always does, she made me fall for this vulnerable heroine, flaws and all. She made mistakes, (which frustrated me) but she transformed herself by the end of the book and I admired the hell out of that.

What did I love about her?

She was highly intelligent and independent.
She had a snort laugh. (That's totally a pro. Who's with me?)

I snorted again-because when I laugh, I snort like the love child of a pig and an alligator unless I hold my nose, in which case I sound like I've got a terrible case of the hiccups-which made him laugh all the harder.

She's a blogger. So, yeah. Obviously I loved that.
She's kindhearted despite being neglected and hurt growing up.
She forged an impressive career on sheer determination and smarts alone.

Ronan. He's sweet, patient, cheeky and bold, a little bit kinky and a lot adorable.

I loved Ronan's sensitivity, his love of family, and his lack of ego despite being a huge thing in the world of Rugby. There was a lot to love about him. But his quick temper landed him in a PR nightmare and forced off the team. And Annie is the person assigned to clean up his image by introducing him to the world of social media. To sway public opinion into his corner, and luckily, that's her specialty. What she didn't expect was Ronan pushing her buttons every chance he got and forcing her to take chances and risk her heart.

He was so...present. When he looked at me, I felt so entirely seen. But it was more than that, because I got the impression he wasn't just looking at me when we were together. Yes, he watched me, but he also touched me and felt me.

He was kind of perfect.

From the first meeting with Annie, he was hooked. Her complete lack of interest and awkwardness didn't hold him back. He understood Annie's vulnerabilities and protected her like no one ever had before. He had no apologies for speaking his mind and stirring up Annie's safe world. The world she created-her celebrity blog which allowed her to retreat from society and speak boldly where she was unable to in "real life".

And can we talk about this couple's chemistry for a second? Annie was self-proclaimed, sexually starved. Ronan was highly sexual and particular in his tastes. Of course, these authors are the masters of sexual tension build-up so by the time they surrendered to each other, the result was explosive. My oh, freakin' my. The car scene was crazy hot.

I rose then, unable to contain my need to fuck her senseless any longer. My hips jutted in and out almost violently, and she took it all, soaked me in and let me back out again, gave me something that I didn't ever want to forget. She absorbed me. She was everything in that moment. All I could see.

So, I don't want to give too much more away, but Annie let her fear control her and made a hugely stupid move, which did annoy me. I'm not going to lie. But her crippling fear from the beginning of the book made her actions realistic as much as they frustrated me. And by the end, I was won over. So, even though both characters had their flaws, both had an abundance strengths. And I was totally immersed inside Annie and Ronan's journey. It was a story about learning how to re-invent yourself, and finding the courage to risk your heart for the one who's worth it. And it was done in that witty, well-plotted style that I've come to love from each of them.

There are some authors that have a feel to their writing that you can connect with on a personal level each and every time even if the story itself isn't something you would not typically read. This is how I feel about both authors of this book. Their appeal is their richly layered plots and fascinating characters that are dependably "outside the box". They both have a special uniqueness to their writing. However, if I were to try to find a similar writing style to Penny Reid or vise versa, I would easily pair these two together as the perfect fit. Which set this book firmly at the top of my most anticipated books of 2015. So, to sum it up: The Hooker and the Hermit was well worth the wait.

About Penny Reid

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing). By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
