“Okay, you’re killing me. I really want to know what’s in the bag,” I say impatiently. “You’ve been carrying it around the entire night. I’m dying to find out what it is!”

“You’d like to know now, wouldn’t you?” he teases. I nod. “Ask me nicely,” Luke demands, and it’s so sexy.

“Please?” I beg candidly, fluttering my eyelashes, giving him the most adorable expression I can manage. His laugh is so charming.

“Okay, but only because you asked so nicely. Close your eyes.” I do as I’m told, squinting to steal a look. “Hey, no peeking!”

“Fine,” I mutter. This time I comply. I gently close my eyes and giggle a little as the excitement of the impending surprise looms. I hear him open the bag and pull out whatever is inside. My senses are hyperaware of all things Luke. The next thing I feel is his finger on my lips, tracing the line of my mouth corner to corner. Top first, then bottom. My body tenses as sweet sensation starts to build low in my belly. This has got to be the most erotic feeling ever. And we’re not even naked.

“God, your lips Tess…” Luke trails off, and I’m … oh, God, I’m a mess of emotions. Need. Anticipation. Lust. All I can think about is his lips. We’ve done some very – how shall I put this? – adventurous things, but we’ve yet to have our first kiss. I just about decide that I don’t care about the gift anymore because all I can suddenly think about is how much I want to kiss him and how much I want him to kiss me. Will his lips be soft and caressing, or will they be needy and passionate when they first meet mine? Will his tongue gently find mine, or will he greedily take it?

I’m holding onto my composure with less than an ounce of control and, rather impatiently, waiting for further instructions. His finger leaves my mouth, and I’m bummed out by the sudden loss of contact. A moment later I feel his finger on my lips again, but this time there’s added something. Something creamy and buttery and … sweet, I realize as I suck on my bottom lip. Strawberry icing. Belonging to the cupcake he bought earlier. He picked it out for me! With my eyes still shut, I savor the sweetness of my own creation.

“Mmm. So good,” I purr.

I open my eyes and am drawn into his gaze. He’s looking at me as if he’s memorizing my face. There’s so much emotion, so much sincerity there, so much desire. He cups my cheeks in his palms and I lean into him. He looks down at my lips, and the moment I’ve been anticipating, the moment I’ve imagined a thousand times over, is so close I can almost imagine the taste of him. The sounds that surround us are faint. I can hear only the whispers of our breath.

“No, this is good,” he breathes, and then his lips lunge greedily against mine. Best. Present. Ever.

From the first few pages, I found myself completely hooked on the mystery and intrigue Denial had to offer. The blurb promises sultry suspense and Lisa Renee Jones delivers just that.

We are first introduced to our heroine as she rouses in a hospital bed. With no recollection of the events that led to her hospitalisation, her only source of information comes from the stranger standing in her room. The stranger or rather hero, Kayden, is able to fill in some blanks. It appears she was the victim of a mugging.

It soon becomes apparent that the mugging has not only left her at a loss of her possessions but her memory also. With no way to verify who she is, Kayden takes it upon himself to care for her until either some information comes to light about her identity or her memory is restored. I have to admit, I was instantly attracted to Kayden's protectiveness when it came to Ella. The fact she felt a familiarity with him instantly roused my suspicions that there was more afoot than Kayden leads us to believe.

As the plot develops and snippets of Ella's past are revealed, it serves to heighten the suspense that becomes increasingly potent when Kayden's history is added to the mix. Fear and intensity can make for a great segue to sex but along with this, the comfort they sought from each other made their connection feel more genuine to me.

Denial is the first novel in a 3 part series and with a great introduction and cliffhanger, Lisa Renee Jones pretty much guarantees I'll be holding out for mores rom this series.

I couldn’t sleep. I meant to go to the kitchen and then I ended up here because I wanted . . .” His reaction cuts like his anger. “Just never mind.” I try to move around him but his hands press to the wall beside me, caging me, and now I’m angry. “Are we doing this again? Don’t bully me. My stupid flashbacks are doing a fine job of that on their own. I said I’m sorry. Just let me go back to my room.”

“You wanted what?”

“I wanted you to do what you swore you could,” I blurt, having nothing to lose when everything is already gone.

“Only I don’t want you to fuck me until I can’t remember my name. I want you to fuck me until I stop thinking about that man and the gun. Because you were right. Memories are the enemies that never die. But I know you don’t want—”

His hand slides under my hair and he drags me to him, my hand flattening on the hard wall of his chest. “I do want. So fucking bad it’s killing me.”

My palm is directly over his heart, and I can feel it racing, the air around us crackling with barely contained passion. “I don’t need a hero to save my virtue tonight. I need you. So please. Fuck me and then fuck with my head so no one else can. Let me choose my own sins.”

He is stone, unmoving, his body steel, his expression unreadable, the sexual tension crackling between us. “You want sin, sweetheart,” he says. “I’ll give you sin.” His mouth closes down on mine, his tongue licking into my mouth, wicked with demand, and I can taste his hunger, his need. A deep, aching need I want to fill.
