When Lady Delilah Chambers finds herself stranded at a country inn on a rain-swept evening, she’s forced to fend off a group of ruffians with the help of a handsome gentleman. Irresistibly drawn to each other, Leela and the stranger spend one reckless night in each others’ arms—and then go their separate ways. But the very next day Leela receives the shock of her life when she meets the duke who is set on wedding her beloved stepdaughter.

When it finds two destined hearts...

One night isn’t enough with a woman as fierce, fiery, and brilliant as Leela. Elliot Townsend, Duke of Huntington, cannot believe his good fortune when their chance encounter leads to an unforgettable evening of passion. Yet Hunt’s luck runs out when he is introduced to his prospective mother-in-law. Dowagers aren’t supposed to look like this...

Leela and Hunt are determined to keep each other at arm’s length, which should be easy enough for two intelligent adults with reputations to uphold. The problem is all logic is lost when it comes to a passion that refuses to be ignored.

Praise for Diana Quincy:

"Quincy cleverly incorporates much-loved genre tropes into the daringly sensual plot of her print romance debut, and this combined with the refreshingly original, boldly adventurous heroine, who fully embraces her Middle Eastern family origins, makes this marvelously entertaining love story the literary equivalent of catnip for historical romance fans."

-Booklist (starred review)

"Her Night with the Duke is an original story that will grab you from the first page and not let go. The angst level is deliciously high and I had no idea how Leela and Hunt were going to work this out... This is a book not to be missed!"

-Joanna Shupe, award-winning author of The Devil of Downtown

"...it’s Quincy’s extraordinary ability to convey complex emotions that sets the book apart. Quincy’s own background as a first-generation Arab-American also allows her to bring indispensable detail to the story, which is enriched by details of Leela’s journey to learn about, and come to appreciate, her “Levantine” heritage—a welcome addition..."

-Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"Quincy (“Rebellious Brides” series) delivers a steamy Regency fraught with family discord as well as societal and racial prejudices. This gripping series starter ultimately triumphs with an honorable hero and a spirited Anglo-Arab heroine who fights for acceptance and love on her own terms."

-Library Journal (starred review)

"Vivid, bold, witty, and seductive! Diana Quincy is your new historical romance obsession."

-Lenora Bell, USA Today bestselling author of Love is a Rogue

“Lovers of historical fiction could hardly do better than Diana Quincy…”

-Fresh Fiction

Praise for Diana Quincy: "Sweet, steamy and thoroughly enjoyable...”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lorraine Heath has always had a soft spot for emotional love stories. No doubt because growing up, watching movies with her mom, she was taught that the best movies "won't half make you cry."

She is the daughter of a British beauty (her mom won second place in a beauty contest sponsored by Max Factor® during which she received a kiss from Caesar Romero, (the Joker on the original Batman TV series) and a Texan who was stationed at Bovingdon while serving in the air force. Lorraine was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England, but soon after moved to Texas. Her "dual" nationality has given her a love for all things British and Texan, and she enjoys weaving both heritages through her stories.

When she received her BA degree in psychology from the University of Texas, she had no idea she had gained a foundation that would help her to create believable characters—characters that are often described as “real people.” She began her career writing training manuals and computer code for the IRS, but something was always missing. When she read a romance novel, she became not only hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She's been writing about them ever since.

Her work has been recognized with numerous industry awards including RWA's RITA®. Her novels have appeared on bestseller lists, including USA TODAY and the New York Times.
The author of more than 60 novels, she writes historical and contemporary romance for adults and historical romance for teen readers.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

New Release: The Odds of You and Me by Cecilia Galante

The Odds of You and Me by Cecilia Galante
Genre: YA

“Galante’s gift for storytelling lies in her ability to find the extraordinary within
the ordinary. Readers will fall in love with her unforgettably complex
protagonist, Bird, along with the overall authenticity of her prose.”
— Emily Liebert, bestselling author of Some Women

Blurb:
Thirteen days. That’s all Bernadette, “Bird,” Sincavage has left to go until she’s done with her probation and can be free again. Free from making payments to the supermarket she wrote bad checks to. Free from living at home with her overzealous mother who’s constantly nagging her about attending church again. Free to give her four-year-old son, Angus, the normal life he deserves. Her impending freedom and move to Moon Lake, where she’s plunked down a deposit on a brand new apartment, is so close she can almost taste it. What trouble could she possibly get into in just 13 days?

But trouble does follow in the form of James Rittenhouse—someone she worked with a few years ago. At first, Bird is stunned to see James make the evening news when he’s arrested for assaulting someone in a local bar. But that’s nothing compared to the shock she gets when she discovers James hiding out in an abandoned church choir loft. Somehow he escaped police custody, broke his leg, and got his hand on a gun, which he’s now pointing at her.

Although Bird doesn’t tell anyone she saw James, there’s no way she’s helping him. She can’t screw up her probation or her second chance for a new future. And she has her son’s welfare to think about. Still. If only she could stop thinking about the terrified look in James’ eyes and the fact that he’s hurt. If only she could forget that once, long ago, James helped her out, and she owes him a debt like no other.

Will Bird jeopardize her future for someone who helped her out in the past? A past that holds secrets she’s not quite sure she’s ready to face? Or will she turn a blind eye and learn to live with the consequences?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

CECILIA GALANTE, who received an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Goddard College, Vermont, is the author of six young adult novels and a children’s chapter-book series. She has been the recipient of many awards, including an NAIBA Best Book of the Year, and an Oprah’s Teen Read Selection for her first novel,The Patron Saint of Butterflies.

She lives in Kingston, Pennsylvania with her three children.

In Conversation with Cecilia Galante

1  Did you learn anything new or surprising while writing your latest book?

I did, actually. The most obvious were all the strange facts I researched for James’ Curious Facts and Data book. Sometimes research for a book can be tedious, but the incredible information I uncovered for this one, including how the human heart beats more than 100,000 times a day, and that there is an actual name for the metallic way the air smells after it rains, were so interesting that it never felt like work. It was just so much fun!

2 How would you say the landscape in which you grew up (i.e. the region, culture, family)has shaped you as a writer?

I always sigh a bit when I get this question because I know I’ll have to go into a lot of strange detail about my somewhat unusual background (born into and raised in a fanatically religious cult for the first fifteen years of my life in upstate New York) but I’ve also learned that sometimes it’s is not the physical place or the culture that shapes people who end up writing – it’s the books along the way. At least that was true for me. I’d be errant if I said that growing up without a solid relationship to my parents has influenced several storylines in my books, (including this most recent one) but I’m also pretty sure I became a writer because my eleventh-grade English teacher, who may have noticed that I was a little bit out of my element, having just moved from the cult into the “real world,” left a copy of The Catcher in the Rye on my desk.

I read the novel in a day, finishing the last chapter inside the school’s bathroom stall, weeping uncontrollably. In a world where almost nothing made any sense, here was someone who told the truth – no matter how ugly or scary or funny it was – without worrying whether or not others would stop loving him if he did. Was that how things worked out here? Were we really allowed to write and say things that might make us look weak or even downright crazy? Because if it was, I knew that day, that it was all I ever wanted to do with the rest of my life. And it still is.

3 What is the difference between a fleeting idea you have for a book, which you eventually
forget or discard, and one that gets you putting pen to paper, so to speak?

I’m not sure if there is a difference between the two. I’d say it’s more of a seed and soil analogy; almost all of my ideas that have eventually led me to the page have always started off as a fleeting thought of some sort. Sometimes it’s not even an idea; it’s just a character who has found herself in a ridiculously interesting situation. That might be the glimmer of the idea. The one that gets to the page is the one that keeps on glimmering, day after day, week after week, until it gets so bright you’ve got to put the damn thing down before you go blind.

4 Who or what inspires your characters? Do you have a particular type of character that fascinates you?
If I admitted to all the people I’ve known over the years who have influenced a character of mine in some way, I’d probably get in a lot of trouble! I’ve rarely based a character completely off someone I know; the process is more of an organic one, in which I start off thinking of someone and then watch as the character flourishes into someone in her own right. It happens like that all the time, and it always amazes me when it does, because the finished character is almost nothing like the original one I had in my head. The process is just incredible.

As for characters that fascinate me, I’d have to say the angry ones. Or more accurately, the ones that aren’t afraid to be angry or piss people off. I LOVE writing characters like that, probably because I am the polar opposite of them. It’s freeing to live vicariously through someone else for a while, even if it’s just on the page.

5 What is the best piece of advice you have received that has influenced you as an author?
Best advice I’ve ever received as a writer: Sit down and write.

Best advice I’ve ever received as an author: Don’t take no for an answer.

6 What is the most important thing you want readers to take away from your book?
Probably what I discovered while writing it: that God and parents and everything that goes with them are nothing without love.

In my last review, I made the following statement:

I should know by now, the moment you start imagining how a book is going to go, you're just asking for trouble. Expectations burn you every time.

Get ready, because I'm about to eat my words. Generally speaking, this is true. 99% of the time. But sometimes you have that one author. Maybe two. That author that produces books over and over again that not only live up to all your hopes and expectations but surpass them and wrap you up in pure bliss. The cold, hard facts are when a new Penny Reid book arrives, I can depend on reading something that will blow everything else I've read that week out of the water. Every time. Elements of Chemistry is no exception.

*Swoony*-->

Katy Parker is everything you would expect from a Penny Reid heroine. She's the perfect brainy oddball with plenty of quirky personality traits to make her enchant you right from the start. Being raised by two highly intelligent parents, she grown into a no nonsense, straightforward type of woman who appreciates intellect over the usual superficial standards of society. She's a word nerd. She recites synonyms when she's upset or nervous. (I loved that! Loved! It ramped up her rating on the awesome scale.) She has a dry sense of humor and I couldn't stop smirking at her off the wall thoughts. But then, I expected nothing less with Penny's witty brand of humor.

He was so handsome I felt like filing a civil lawsuit against his parents, claiming punitive damages, pain and suffering to my psyche.

However, Katy has one secret, guilty vice-and that weakness is her chemistry partner, Martin Sandeke. The guy she likes to call "jerk faced bully". She's knows it's wrong to lust after the kind of person that has a very short leash on his temper and a stinging wit that no one is safe from. So she keeps her unrealistic, unobtainable craving locked up tight.

Penny is a maestro at building that pull and draw to an enormous crescendo. That constant tease that builds your anticipation to towering heights. Most of the time I didn't know whether I wanted to laugh or swoon at any given moment between Martin and Katy.

Katy is under the impression that he doesn't notice her as anything other than his lab partner during the last two semesters. Little does she know, he has his own attraction simmering on the back burner. Katy's seeming indifference to his wealth and family, her unconscious beauty, and her straightforward honesty are causing a little obsession of his own. Martin is a pretty uncaring guy at best, and scornful and cutting at worst. But when he's around Katy, you can see how he gravitates toward her and the yearning he harbors for this unassuming girl.

After convincing him to go away with him and his friends for a week on a private island (and then convincing her again) Martin makes it his mission to get Katy to give him a chance despite the bad impression he's given her these past months. Even though she has these feelings for him, she's too smart to not be cautious about his intentions and the possible consequences of putting her trust in him. And his possessiveness is noticeably freaking her out.

Even if I were Martin's girl-which I wasn't-there was nothing amiss with me sitting next to Martin's friend. I felt abruptly I'd just been peed on. I didn't want to be peed on.

One of the things I love about Penny's heroines is that she creates women who are strong and intelligent. No exceptions. You're not going to get a heroine who is supermodel gorgeous with 2 brain cells bouncing around in her head. She writes characters that are unconventionally pretty with a strong emphasis on humor and intellect. I value that SO much.

Based on the few sample chapters I read of this in Bunsen Burner Bingo, I knew I would love Katy, Martin I wasn't so sure. But after reading part one of this series, I not only grew fascinated with Martin, but I'm dying to know more about him. It's obvious why Ms. Reid ended up dividing this up into a story arc over three books. There is so much unexplored ground to cover with these two, I can't wait to delve into all the layers she's teased us with so far. Martin's hinted lack of love growing up, the incident with the attempted drugging, and hopefully getting some dual point of view in the following books in order to understand Martin a little bit better.

After that ending, I'm just hoping I don't have to wait too long for the next installment. That's my one and only complaint-you had to leave us hanging there didn't you, Penny?? I need more Katy and Martin-preferably yesterday.
