Excerpt:

“So, what are we doing today? Can we go riding?” I ask excitedly.

“No, someone’s coming over in an hour,” he says, wiping his mouth.

“O…kay,” I say slowly, waiting for him to tell me who is coming over. He doesn’t say anything, just smiles. “So, who is it?” I ask after he still doesn’t say anything.

“You’ll see.” He shrugs.

“So, you’re not going to tell me who it is?”

“Nope,” he says, putting his cup and plate into the sink without rinsing it. He starts to walk away, so I clear my throat to get his attention. When he looks at me, I nod my head in the direction of the sink and he raises his eyebrows. So, I nod my head in the direction of the sink again. “Do you have a tic, baby?” he asks, his mouth twitching.

I narrowed my eyes. “I'm not your maid, Asher.” He straight out smiles, giving me the dimple, then walks to the sink, takes his plate and cup out, still without rinsing them, and places them in the dishwasher. “You have to rinse it before you put it in the dishwasher,” I tell him, feeling and sounding like a total nag.

“It’s a dishwasher,” he says slowly, walking towards me.

“Ye—” Before I can get the words out, his mouth is on mine. The kiss is deep, wet, and so yummy, that when he pulls his mouth away, my hands are wrapped around his neck and my legs are around his hips. I'm in an Asher fog so deep that he could tell me that it’s not a dishwasher, but a microwave, and I would agree with him completely.

My eyes flutter open. He’s looking down at me with a cocky smile and mumbles, “That’s better.” Then, he squeezes my ass in his hands, sets me on the counter and leaves the kitchen, putting on his shirt as he goes.

“Holy crap,” I whisper. Beast looks at me, grunts, then walks to his dog bed and lays down, completely disappointed in my lack of willpower. “It’s not my fault,” I mumble to my dog. He lets out a breath and shuts his eyes, completely dismissing me. “It’s not,” I say, still mumbling. I hop off the counter, take Asher’s dishes from the dishwasher, rinse off the cream cheese so it doesn’t harden onto the plate, rinse out the cup then place them both back in the dishwasher. The whole time, I'm smiling.

Some say fate holds the cards. But what if love deals the hand? No love goes untested. Ever. Indeed, true love is left to prove itself. And that is exactly where fate steps in to play the game.

For William and Sarah, that game begins with growing up, in the unspoiled mountains of Colorado. In a time and space as clear as the Rocky Mountain skies above, these young souls together learn about life, what matters most, what endures, what doesn’t, and about love. Innocent young love moves ever so surely toward lives they both can picture, lives spent loving each other in a place they know so well and cherish.

Will and Sarah are ecstatically swept away in the swells of new love. And it is in their rarefied bliss that they make the fragile promise of first love, a promise that fate will soon rock and pound into doubt, guilt, and epiphany.

Unexpected and unprepared, these young lovers are suddenly torn apart, first by distance, and then by the far greater pressures of temptation that test the very fidelity of their heart-held promise. No longer able to console each other, hold each other, touch each other, they face the inevitable decision: move on to other loves, or cling to the faith that they will someday be together, again.

Will and Sarah stare down an unknown path, sensing destiny will not wait long before it comes to take them. Wracked with doubt, they wonder if their love was real. Caged by guilt, they both feel tempted by others intent on stealing their hearts.

Fate plays hardest when love is tested. And Will and Sarah are no exception, letting go of their happy past to embrace hope for an uncharted future. Love plays hardest when fate tests. And so it is, even through their trials of the heart, Will and Sarah never really stop loving each other. Theirs is a love so real and pure that each just wants the other to find happiness, even if it's with another.

But fate does not surrender so easily. Dealing blow upon blow, both Will and Sarah are each struck by jolting events that take them to the very edge of life, itself. What happens to love when life is on the line? Can they both relinquish control when love is on the line? Will fate even allow them to find out?

Excerpt:

He took a rag from his back pocket and began to wipe the grease from his hands as he looked at her, waiting for her to speak first. Barely finding her voice, she whispered, “Hey, Adley.”
“Hey, yourself,” he seemed to know his affect on her and smiled slyly.
“Sorry to bother you…but, I wanted to talk to you.”
Raising an eyebrow, Adley took a step closer to her.  “Okay.  So talk.”
Knowing what happened every time he had stepped to her in the past, Sarah instinctively took a step backward.  Punctuating that this time would be different, she held up her hand.  “Look, Adley…I need to tell you something.  It’s not fair for me not to be honest with you.  And, I do care about you…so I need…”
Ignoring her gestures, Adley took another step toward her closing the gap quickly.  “I care about you, too, Sarah, and I need…” he trailed off, and let his eyes drift down the length of her body, and waited for her imagination to complete his thought.
“Please Adley, just stop,” she held up her hand again.  “Please, let me finish.  Please?”
Adley held open his arms, welcoming her to continue, although Sarah could still detect a glint in his eyes that made her wonder if he was going to take her seriously.
“You know that there was someone in Colorado, that I had to leave?”
Adley nodded, but allowed her to continue.
“His name is William, and…he and I…were close, very close.  We were best friends.”
“Best friends?” Adley slightly turned his head and looked at her suspiciously.
“Well, no.  I mean, yes.  Best friends, but we were more than that.  I’m trying to tell you that…I made a promise to him.  We promised each other, actually.  I promised him…my heart.” There.  She said it.  She finally said it out loud.  She sighed heavily, and waited for Adley to say something, to say anything, to end the awkward silence hanging between them. Adley looked down at the ground and rubbed his eyebrow with his thumb several times before he looked up at her.
“So…what are you saying, Sarah?”
Clearly, he wasn’t going to make this a cut and dry discussion and go back to working on the truck.
“I’m saying that…it’s not right for me to be with you.  Not when I’m thinking about someone else.”
Adley took a deep breath, jammed the rag back in his pocket, and put his hands on his hips.
“You didn’t kiss me like you were thinking about someone else.  What about that, Sarah?”
“Adley, that is why I have to tell you this.  It was wrong to kiss you, and I’m sorry.  I’m trying to do what’s right.  Today.  Please, please don’t make this any harder than it already is?”
Adley kicked at the pebbles at his feet, “So where does that leave us? Or I guess there isn’t an us, is there? Where does that leave me, Sarah?”

Review: Shard Of Us by K R Caverly

About The Book:

18000739
Title: Shards of Us
Author: K R Caverly
Release Date: 3rd October
We meet every Wednesday night in hotel room #364. We stay there until morning--kissing, laughing, healing one another. We're both broken people, him with his alcoholic family, me with my murdered one. I don't know who he is; I don't ask for his name. I don't question him. I only love how he makes me feel, how he makes me forget just how alone I am in this world, and for now, that's all I need.

We have three rules:

1) No sex.
2) No personal questions.
3) No leaving the hotel room until morning. Not ever.

For four months, I followed the rules. I came to the hotel room every Wednesday night, and his presence never failed to cure me. I was happy with him. But one night, he doesn't show. So when I hear a scream down the hallway, I can't help myself. I break rule number three. I leave the room.

My life has never been the same since.

My Thoughts:

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Shards Of Us is not what I expected. I hoped that it’d be as epic as the mysterious, enthralling blurb, that caught my eye, but I got something entirely else and I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it. I didn’t hate it, nor did I love it, and books that fall into meh and okay category, for me, are the hardest to write about. Should I focus on the things I didn’t like? Or should I point out the best assests?

Well, I really don’t know, what to think about Shard of Us… I fear my great expectations made me waiting on something epic, fast paced and mind blowing. Instead, at one point of reading, I caught myself at thinking ‘This is it? I’m bored.’

This is a story about two, totally broken and lonely people, that crave intimacy and closeness. In the world, where they don’t have anyone to lean on or care about, Crystal and Sebastian are like two deserted islands: empty, lonely and wild. There are empty parts in their hearts, that need to be filled with something, anything. Maybe even love.

After one meeting, these two strangers could see into each others eyes and they decided to meet every Wednesday night in hotel room #364.

But one night something’s gone wrong… and nothing was like before.

This storyline wasn’t very believeable. The plot didn’t have the strenght to fully captivate me and as much as I loved the vague idea of it, in reality I wasn’t feeling it.

I didn’t like Sebastian and his behavior left me angry and confused. Crystal out of blue methamorphosis left me wondering if she’s suffering from multiply personalities disorder. It was too suden and I couldn't point out the catalyst, that made her change from weak and depressed to strong woman. I wish it could've been more developed, and that I could see and understand why Crystal changed.

Most of the time, I couldn’t even grasp the idea of Sebastian and Crystal in healthy relationship. They were too broken and raw. I didn’t feel chemistry between them. I guess, it was just too fast for me to see it. And in most cases, when I can’t feel the need between the characters, the burning feeling of love and want, I’m not impressed with romance.

On the other hand, I enjoyed the uniqueness and refreshing idea author used in her book. Few plot twists and turns left me gaping and impressed. For the debut novel they were well thought and satisfying, which was a big plus for me ;)

Overall, Shards of Us made me feel the need to see what else K R Caverly can do to surprise me. I will be waiting for more of her books, just to satisfy my curiosity and see if she can develop as well as work on her talent. The stunning way she can jump with totally intriguing and refreshing ideas is her great asset and I will be waiting for more.

Review: Tattoo Thief by Heidi Joy Tretheway

About The Book:

18213585Title: Tattoo Thief
Author: Heidi Joy Tretheway
Release Date: 8th October

22-year-old Beryl doesn't know why Gavin Slater trashed his penthouse, abandoned his dog and fled the country. But as his house sitter, she must pick up the pieces for the front man of the white-hot rock band Tattoo Thief.

When ultra-responsible Beryl confronts the reckless rock star, she wants to know more than just what to do with his mess. Why is he running? What’s he searching for? And is he responsible for the death of his muse?

New York newbie Beryl must find her footing in Gavin’s crazy world of the ultra-wealthy to discover her own direction and what can bring him back.

Steamy, sassy and tender, Tattoo Thief is a story of breaking from a comfort zone to find a second chance.

My Thoughts:

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
"Bad boy can’t break your heart"
"What song’s that from?"
"Nothing. It’s just a good rule to live by"

Tattoo Thief was exactly what I needed to read. I was looking for something that could make me grin, swoon and tingle, and thanks to his wonderful book I acomplished it. I had a blast reading this quirky, fast paced book with totally unique rock star romance. I was quickly captivated and couldn’t stop reading till I’ve finished and when I did, I immadiately wished for more. I was captured by this amazingly well written story and sweet romance, every girl dreams of.

As a big fan of rock star’s stories, I’ve read almost everything there is in this category, but fortuantely Tattoo Thief completely surprised me with really refreshing plot and I can honestly say that I haven’t read a book like that ever.

The story follows Beryl, a young woman that is completely stuck in small town, living with her mother and with college degree that is totally useless. One day when she’s working in the coffee shop, her uncle Dan comes in. A man she hadn’t seen in ten years. When he propositiones her working with him in New York City, Beryl knows that this is her only chance to un-stuck herself.

Now, Beryl is working as a house sitter for the richest families in NYC. She takes care of houses, plants, pets and bills. Her first job is sitting Gavin Slater’s apartment. Lead singer of Tattoo Thief and apparently the sexiest man on the earth. When she starts exchanging emails with Gavin in connection with her job and his dog Jasper, her crush on this rock star only grows.

After few chats with Gavin, Beryl knows he’s broken and full of guilt, and that he’s stuck the same she was. Now every powerful conversation and honest words, hurt them the same way, they heal.

I loved every minute of Tattoo Thief, because it’s really sensual and moving read as much as pure entertaiment. Great plot is mixed with writing style that is absolutely beautiful, light and full of humor, yet passionate and easy to follow with great flashes of briliance and sensitivity made me immensely enjoy Trethaway’s book.

I loved Beryl personality. She was strong, witty and extremely adventerous. There was no unnecessary whining or crying, which made her very likeable and I can’t say anything wrong about her. She and Gavin were exact opposites and equals and together they just shattered my heart.

Trethaway’s way of telling a story is fantastic. Everything in Tattoo Thief is real and sincere. Every page is filled with enaging story about facing obstacles and letting go of things that cannot be changed.

Overall, this book is PHENOMENAL READ. Pure sexiness and touching story with unique, likeable characters and greatly pictured New York City .
