cooltext171844619092981 Brave Enough 2
From the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Boys novels comes another dark, sexy story… Is she brave enough to give her heart to a man she only thought she knew?
He was the most charismatic man I’d ever met. Strong, tough, brave. Bold as hell. Something told me Tag Barton could have anything—anyone—he wanted...and he wanted me. It didn’t matter that he was wrong for me in practically every way possible. It didn’t matter that my father would hate it. I couldn’t resist him. Even if I’d known who he really was and what he was really capable of.
When he suggested we pretend to be engaged, I thought he was the answer to all my problems. He wasn’t. And, in his wake, he left nothing but scorched earth and me, just another casualty of my father’s war. Can I believe him now when he tells me he loves me?  Or is he nothing more than a beautiful, breathtaking lie?

"Brave Enough was everything that I could have wanted in this final installment of the series. It had heat, chemistry, romance, raw characters and of course a little drama thrown into the mix to give readers a full spectrum of what it means to TRUST and LOVE. From the first to the very last page, M. Leighton had me devouring this book in one sitting and left a permanent smile on my face as she set hearts ablaze with this beautiful, heartfelt, and wholesome love story." ~Michelle from Four Chicks Flipping Pages

"Of all the books in the series, this one is probably my favorite. The storytelling that Leighton does felt so effortless and the characters are ones that complement each other so well, so you can’t help but root for them. Now that we say goodbye to the Tall, Dark, and Dangerous men, I’m curious to see where M. Leighton will go next!" ~ Candy from Prisoners of Print

Review

This book surprised the hell out of me. I'm just going to put that out there right from the start. I knew that this was written by two of my most trusted authors, so I was willing to give this book a chance regardless of what the blurb was. But I didn't know how this would completely draw me in from page one.

There were several things about the story that would have normally made me pause before requesting a copy. Not only is it YA (which I rarely read), it has the type of hero that doesn't always work for me. Just my personal preference, I know a lot of readers go for the asshole hero every time, but I'm very, very picky when it comes to that. These authors weaved their magic for me because they made me addicted and desperate for more of Ella and Reed's love/hate war relationship.

What made me accept Reed's attitude and behavior? A combination of the spellbinding writing and the heroine who doesn't take one ounce of his shit.

I loved this girl. LOVED For every hit he tried to make with her, she hit back just as hard, or harder. She's seen more struggle and tragedy than most people see in a lifetime. And it's made her tough-a fighter. Living in the Royal's house and inner circle, it's a life skill that she desperately needs.

Ella comes to live with Reed when his father becomes her guardian. She never knew her father, and her mother recently passed away from cancer. She's an (underage) ex-stripper, supporting herself through high school trying to find a way to a better life. Then Callum comes along and whisks her away to a whole new world. A world of privilege, excess, and people who are most likely to hug her with a smile while they stab her in the back and laugh. She's learned some valuable life lessons through all her hardship, though, and one thing she knows is that the fairytale is an illusion. Trust is something she doesn't know the meaning of.

This will never be my home. I don't belong in splendor, I belong in squalor. That's what I know. It's what I'm comfortable with because squalor doesn't lie to you. It's not wrapped up in a pretty package. It is what it is.

The five Royal boys are what I would describe as entitled teens with a god complex. Not only do they have power over their father, but they hold court as the monarchs of their private school. No one dares to question or cross them. Until Ella came to town. This was one of the most addictive parts of the story for me. Seeing this power struggle between Elle and the Lion's Den that she landed in. Though she had moments of intimidation, she never backed away from any of their challenges. She was witty, strong, and had an overall unique character with a fascinating personality.

If you're hoping for a hearts and flowers type of romance, you won't find that here. Reed can be downright despicable and intolerable at the best of times. He uses his mother's death as a free pass to cause havoc on anyone whom he sees fit. That being said, it didn't deter me one bit from the story as it played out in its grim glory. There were manipulations around every corner and I blissfully ate it up with a spoon.

All the power play between Ella and Reed developed into the kind of ripe sexual tension that readers dream of. It was positively decadent and made my heart flutter. It was passionate. Thrilling. It had my heart racing and turning the pages until I saw that tension reach its breaking point.

To sum things up, I was thoroughly ensconced in this glittering world of privilege and wealth. That glitter concealed a whole lot of depravity and sins. I took off half a point from my rating because of the events that occurred right before the cliffy. My jaw dropped and I was ready to kick Reed in his gold plated nuts. I'm really hoping that what happened wasn't what it appeared. (Though that seems pretty impossible)

Paper Princess was a far cry from your typical YA book, maybe that's one of the things I enjoyed about it the most. It was bold and brilliantly executed. Now after that horrendous cliffy, I'm just going to pretend that I don't have to wait until this summer to continue with the insanity with the Royals. I don't think I'll have the patience otherwise.

Blurb:

Casey Coffield has a growing list of personal flaws he keeps locked away in his head:
He’s never on time.
His list of IOUs to his best friend is endless.
Money is always short.
Goals are never in reach.

Oh, and he’s decided to add college drop-out to that list, too. He doesn’t really think that last one’s such a bad thing, but his family insists it is, so it stays on the list.

On paper, he’s a zero. But in person, when he’s mixing tracks for a sea of bodies at the hottest clubs and parties, he’s downright irresistible. Just-right stubble on his chin, body of a boxer and a smirk that stimulates all the right nerves—women have never been a problem. They flock to his swagger and fall for his charm…fast.

All except for this one.

Purple hair, gray eyes, a raspy voice and sass, Murphy Sullivan is a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll. And her and Casey? They have history. He can’t remember it, but she wrote a song about him—and it’s not exactly a love song. But it is good. Damn good. And uncovering her inspiration just might be the key to solving a few of his shortcomings—not to mention open doors to his own big break in the music industry.

But sometimes dreams get messy when they collide. Sometimes life changes patterns. A past paints the wrong picture and futures get cloudy. The only question that remains is who will you choose when the dust settles—you? Or the girl of your dreams?

In Your Dreams is the sixth book I've read by Ginger Scott and once again, another success. She is one of those authors for me that continue to write books that surprise me, entertain me, and make me one happy reader. Her Falling series characters in particular really stand out to me with their endearing charm. This book is considered a spinoff of that series, and you will see appearances of characters from The Girl I Was Before, but it can be read 100% as a standalone.

One of my absolute favorite things about this book was the heroine. This is a somewhat uncommon thing for me to say because often I'm more critical of them as opposed to the hero. I like my strong heroines, the confident, intelligent, and independent ones really endear themselves to me the most. Would I classify Murphy as strong? Yes, but she was still growing into that strength. I think what I loved the most about her was that she may have been dealt a tough hand, but she resolved to overcome it and found her confidence. She was quiet and shy, but she also wasn't afraid to speak her mind and demand respect.

Murphy is an absolute sweetheart. She's struggled through painful years in school being ridiculed for having a speech impediment. Her stutter was embarrassing and something that she slowly learned to conquer through music. Music gave her a voice, an outlet. It helped her to move from the shadows she protected herself in, to the spotlight. She only needed someone to really see her, and help her shine.

Casey is known as the screw-up. He's selfish, lazy, and undependable according to his disapproving family. To his friends, he's hopelessly inept at making his life run smoothly. But there was something admirable about his determination to follow his own path and chase his dream in the music business. He's a talented DJ who like Murphy, needs to get his foot in the door-and once he hears Murphy's stunning voice, he knows she's the one to help him get there. Even if her most popular song seems to be about....him? With a song titled, In Your Dreams Casey Coffield, there's no mistaking things.

She's been burned by him in the past, but the question is how? His self-centeredness has been so great that he doesn't even remember who she is or how he could have impacted her life. This was really riveting to me, seeing her disgust and rejection of his charm and not knowing what their history was. It really made me think about how a simple, seemingly insignificant moment can affect another person and change them.

Casey had to have persistence and patience to break through her defenses. She had to learn to stop living in the past and see Casey as he was now, rather than who he used to be.

I really delighted in seeing this couple discover each other and learn from each other. It was the kind of relationship that you'd least expect, but they helped one another grow and become better versions of themselves.

Maybe he isn't as selfish as everybody thinks-as I think. Maybe he just needs someone who's willing to walk through fire with him and hold him through the ugly parts. Maybe I'm stronger than I think.

There was another strong layer to the plot involving Casey's family. It was perfectly woven into the story, showing us his vulnerability while helping him evolve into the man he wanted to be. He's going through a very painful period that he must find the courage to face. He needs to learn acceptance, forgiveness, and the confidence to move from the past. Casey broke my heart with what he had to deal with, and the sacrifices he had to make.

This book is all about chasing your dreams, facing your failures, and finding love along the way. I loved both characters so much, they were flawed and sympathetic all at the same time in a way that felt very genuine. Even if you haven't read anything in Ginger Scott's Falling series, I would highly recommend reading this one. If you love books about musicians, this one gives a very original spin on your typical rockstar romances and was very refreshing in that aspect. Overall, this was the perfect book for me, at the perfect time. It gave me sweet and light, but it was also weighted with a solid and worthwhile message underneath it all.

It's time to come home, Finn.

It’s been seven years since Daniel Finley left his hometown in Florida for the hustle and bustle of Chicago’s city life.
Since then, he’s worked hard for his position at the prestigious law firm Leighton & Associates, even when it’s caused distance and isolation from his family and friends.

But that’s all about to change.

On his thirtieth birthday, he receives the one thing he never dared hope for.
Something that was promised to him years earlier—a note. One simple sentence from the man he’s never been able to forget.

Six words will forever change the course of their lives.

Brantley Hayes has it all. Or so he thinks. When he first made the decision to take a job down in Florida, his family thought he was crazy. But, after years of living in the quiet beach town, he finally feels a sense of community. He’s surrounded himself with friends who are like family, has a job he loves, and owns a spectacular beachfront property that is his sanctuary.

Yet he still feels unfulfilled, as if a piece of the puzzle is missing, and he knows exactly which piece it is. On an impulse, he follows through with a promise he made years earlier. A promise to call home the one he sent away.

Nothing is as simple as it seems.

After years of separation, the former lovers are reunited, but Brantley wasn’t expecting to encounter the high walls now guarding Daniel’s heart.

Daniel may not be the same person he was when he left, but he knows that the first step to healing is the note in his hand.
