Title: Unteachable

Author: Leah Raeder
Release Date:  26th July

Rating: 4 stars

I met him at a carnival, of all corny places. The summer I turned eighteen, in that chaos of neon lights and cheap thrills, I met a man so sweet, so beautiful, he seemed to come from another world. We had one night: intense, scary, real. Then I ran, like I always do. Because I didn’t want to be abandoned again.

But I couldn’t run far enough.

I knew him as Evan that night. When I walked into his classroom, he became Mr. Wilke.

My teacher.

I don’t know if what we’re doing is wrong. The rules say one thing; my heart says screw the rules. I can’t let him lose his job. And I can’t lose him.

In the movies, this would have a happy ending. I grow up. I love, I lose, I learn. And I move on. But this is life, and there’s no script. You make it up as you go along.

And you don’t pray for a happy ending. You pray for it to never end.

Forbidden. Dangerous. Sensual.

Unteachable is confusing but still extremely captivating novel, that will capture your mind, heart and soul. No matter how uncomfortable will you feel you still will be reading it. It’s not sweet and pleasant story with forbidden romance between student and teacher like in Slammed or Pretty Little Liars. In Unteachable everything is gritty, raw and realistic. There is no in between.

First of all, I love this kind of relationships. They always make me warm and dizzy with fuzzy emotions. In this case I was left hanging but still extremely satisfied. This book is like no other I’ve read! I’m trying to sort my thoughts because I have mixed feelings, there are so many things I loved as well as things that made me uncomfortable and miserable.

“I can’t hold on to you. You’re like that shooting star. Just a trail of fire in my hands.”

Maise is 18 years old when she meets Evan. He is older man who capture her attention and goes with her to face her fear – roller coster. They spend time together just talking and enjoying each other. After that they have sex.

Maise has „daddy issues”, she has lot of one night stands with older men. Some of them are 2 or 3 times older than her. She knows that what she’s doing is because of the fact she can handle her problems and sex is her way to forget about her absent father and junkie mother.

Coping with drug addict and being on her own makes her bitter and lonely. The need to be with someone on physical basis is overwhelming, but she wasn’t ready for need to know someone mentally. So when she has a chance she runs for the hills from the man who makes her feel. She hadn’t predicted she will see him again in her classroom.

Evan aka Mr. Wilke is misterious man who fights the pull he feels toward Maise. His her teacher, he shouldn’t be sexually involved with a student. He knows exactly how wrong is to feel the things he feel and think the things he thinks, but he can’t help himself.

Their relationship is forbidden and controversial. Many will say it’s wrong. But how can you fight attraction and feelings that overwhelm you? They both are a little bit fucked up. Together they’re toxic and dangerous…

Unteachable is sensual story that reaches the edge of good and bad. In many aspects I didn’t agree with Maise, because she’s frustraiting character that is immature, but I guess 18 year old who don’t know what to do with herself has to act silly.

Unteachable is something worth giving a try. Every fan of forbidden relationships would enjoy this drama packed story.
