Patrycja's Review: Dearest Clementine by Lex Martin

20630265

Title: Dearest Clementine
Series: Dearest #1
Author: Lex Martin
Release Date: April 18, 2014
Rating: 5 stars
Cliffhanger:. No

Twenty-year-old Clementine Avery doesn't mind being called bitchy and closed off. It's safe, and after being burned by her high school sweetheart and stalked by a professor her freshman year of college, safe sounds pretty damn good.

Her number one rule for survival? No dating. That is until she accidentally signs up for a romance writing class and needs material for her latest assignment. Sexy RA Gavin Murphy is more than happy to play the part of book boyfriend to help Clem find some inspiration, even if that means making out...in the name of research, of course.

As Gavin and Clem grow closer, they get entangled in the mystery surrounding a missing Boston University student, and Clem unwittingly becomes a possible target. Gavin tries to show Clem she can handle falling in love again, but she knows she has to be careful because her heart’s at stake…and maybe even her life.

DEAREST CLEMENTINE is a stand-alone novel with two companion novels. This New Adult romance is recommended for readers 18+ due to mature content.

I didn’t know exactly what to expect when I reached for Lex Martin’s novel. I guess, I felt extremely adventurous and decided to give Dearest Clementine a chance. I’m a fan of a little fluffy, yet sexy New Adult reads, so I thought it would be right up my alley. And it was! From the start to the end I grinned like a Cheshire Cat and had incredibly good time! I found this novel sweet, entertaining, enthralling and definitely something worth giving five star rating.

Dearest Clementine is a story about a girl who not only was brokenhearted once, but also stalked by her professor. Her live definitely is not very easy. Now, she’s bitchy, bitter and keeps people away. She doesn’t date, at all. And even though she looks like a model, and boys are drawn to her, constantly asking her out, she always says no. She does it in incredibly bitchy fashion. Sarcasm is her favorite weapon. Having only few close friends is enough for her, though.

Clementine is also a young and talented writer. After her first YA book became a bestseller, Clementine tries to write a second novel that will help her pay the bills. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have an idea for the plot. When she accidentally signed up for Romance writing class in her senior year, shit just hit the fun. How she, romance hater can write a sexy story about love?

Meet Gavin, sexy RA. He’s the guy that will help Clementine write her romance novel. He will be her inspiration…

What can happen when one very bitter and lonely girl meets sexy, funny and nice guy like Gavin?

LOVED this book! I adored the plot, that I found extremely exciting and heart racing. The characters were pretty awesome too. It’s great new adult novel! The story have strong, thick sexual tension, great make out sessions and boy worth swooning over. I was in book haven.

Some may say, that Dearest Clementine is a little predictable, and yeah, some things were easy to figure out, but I was too bewitched by slowly building romance to mind it. So if you just like me, love to read everything new adult, absolutely check it out. It’s a must read!

Christie's Review: The Resistance by S.L. Scott

21522661

Title:The Resistance
Series:Standalone
Author: S.L. Scott
Release Date: April 28, 2014
Rating:4 stars
Cliffhanger: No

You don't choose when.
You don't choose where.

And you don't get to choose who you fall in love with.

The minute he opened his sexy mouth, Holliday Hughes should have known Jack Dalton was trouble. His smooth pickup lines, broad shoulders, and ridiculously handsome face charmed her right out of her clothes. She gave into her desires, the instant attraction blinding her to the obvious.

One night. That was all it took for Holliday’s world to be flipped on its axis. Jack Dalton was cocky. Smug. Volatile. Demanding. He ignited something deep inside her like no other, but there was something more to this brooding bad boy. There was a dark side to him she couldn't help but be drawn to.

Torn between what she knew about him and a mysterious side he tried to hide, could she walk away or was he simply too hard to resist?

Las Vegas.
One weekend.
An angel.
A demon.
Lust.
Yearning.
Hunger.

Holliday, an internet entrepreneur and Dalton, a mysterious man with bad boy written all over him. Their paths collide in Vegas on weekend and their worlds are about to completely change. When their eyes connect across a room they're immediately drawn to each other. There's a darkness in his eyes that tell her she should stay far away but she just can't seem to do it. They have a natural ease with one another right from the start. Their sense of humor, their strange emotional connection, is pulling them closer but it can only ever be this one, passion filled weekend. Can they just give each other what the other needs? Just for now?

We're a couple of people in lust where he can be my demon and I'll be his angel for the night.

They tell themselves that it can't ever come of anything. But there's this undeniable feeling that neither of them can ignore. He's in a place in his life where he feels pretty lost and cynical but this blonde haired vixen could be the angel to pull him back into the light. She's bold, she's honest, and she's like no one he's ever met in his life. She's real.

"I told everyone I would be a hero one day."
"You still can be."
"How? Do you know someone who needs saving?"
His gaze penetrates deep. "Yeah, I might know someone."

I really liked these two together. He's a rockstar on the road and she's an independent, self-reliant woman who has her life and her growing business planned out. They don't seem to have much of a possibility of making this long lasting, but after the emotions that are stirred up that weekend, they don't really have much of a choice. What they've found together isn't easy to find, and they're not ready to admit defeat. The craving and the hunger that they have for each other is so real you can feel it. I absolutely devoured every hot scene in this book.

After they get back to their real lives, they stay connected and they have to work hard to keep going strong. His band is in self-destruct mode, it's rife with women, parties, drugs, and alcohol and he's fast losing his patience with his old way of life. I have to give it to him, with all the temptations thrown at him daily, he never betrays her-he travels across continents even if it's just for the chance to see her for one or two days. He's committed and hooked on her like an addict. And whenever they reconnect, they pick up right where they left off.

They're crazy about each other, but will they be able to make it through everything thrown at them?

I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't anything completely unique-I've definitely read the Badboy Rocker theme many times but it was well written, the heroine didn't get on my nerves, and I really felt all the emotions and passion. Dalton made some idiotic, jealous moves from time to time, but I gave him a little room for error considering his lack of experience in relationships. He was so used to everything being handed to him and not having to work for anything, that considering, I felt he didn't do too bad. By the end of the book, they completely get their acts together and they're committed-hearts, minds, and bodies. This was my first read by S.L. Scott and it won't be my last.

Christie's Review: In Bloom by Katie Delahanty

18979675

Title:In Bloom
Series: The Brightside #1
Author: Katie Delahanty
Release Date: February 10, 2014
Rating:4 stars
Cliffhanger: No
My name is Olivia Bloom and I. Am. Free.

I left for LA with everything I owned piled into my old Volkswagen and dreams of becoming a costume designer. Little did I know I’d wind up designing for a lingerie company—yeah, not sure how I landed this gig—and taken under the wing of two young Hollywood insiders. The fashion shows and parties were great, but life really got exciting when the seriously hottest lead singer of my favorite band started to fall for me.

How does someone like me, an ordinary girl from Pittsburgh, wind up in the arms of the world’s sexiest rock star—surrounded by celebrities, fashion, and music—and not be eaten alive? Berkeley is everything I've ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, but the paparazzi, the tabloids, the rumors, it's all getting a bit too crazy. My life has become every girl’s dream come true, if only I don’t blink and lose it all…

4 Dream Big or Go Home stars

I want to be part of a team that knows no matter what…we’re in it together…it’s our adventure…and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

This book was so refreshing! A rockstar that's just a sweet guy, he isn't alpha, he isn't a manwhore, and he could be the guy next door...if it weren't for all those paparazzi lurking around. I really enjoyed this take on the famous musician/regular girl storyline. It had it's own unique feel and flavor and wasn't like a million other I've read. It was just a cute, fun read at a time when I really needed one. I've been in a book rut and this book helped pull me right out.

When Olivia leaves Pennsylvania for the bright lights of California, she has no idea the whole other world she's getting herself into. She's like a goldfish in a sea of sharks and she's trying to find her way around and survive this new reality she's made for herself. She's decided she's going to reinvent herself-be bold, be brave, and take a leap of faith and live the life she's always dreamed. She's always had an interest in fashion, and moving to Hollywood hopefully will give her the opportunity to get her dream job, meet new and exciting people, and experience life from another perspective.

When she runs into Berkeley, the lead singer in the group Berkeley and the Brightsides (only her favorite band ever) she has a slight fangirl moment and acts like the awestruck girl she is. Her brilliant greeting?

"So, I'm a huge fan. I know you're Berkeley Dalton, and you know I'm-well, actually, you don't know-so let's move on. You're taller than I expected."

Her bumbling, clumsy, yet honest personality is so cute. You really feel for the girl and identify with her. And Berkeley was feeling her too. But if she's going to pass muster in this strange new environment, she's going to need the help of her new friends Parker and Blair. They're ready to show her the ropes, give her a California chic makeover, and teach her the rules of the Hollywood scene. And most importantly, explain the importance of....The Rules.

Berkeley goes out of his way to get the opportunity to get to know Liv better. She's a refreshingly honest and real person in this land of glitter, gloss, and plastic surgery. They were so adorable-both unsure of themselves and with a huge crush but trying to play it cool.

Peeking out of the corner of my eye, I find him watching me, his eyes burning. Fighting for distance, I close my eyes, trying to compose myself. He is overwhelming.

As they get to know each other better, they both see that they have so much in common and it takes a while, but Liv sees past his public persona and realizes he's just a guy. With a crush on a girl. He sweet, has insecurities like everybody else, and oh yeah, he has a movie star sister, gets followed by the paparazzi, and goes to little events like the Oscars and Grammys. No biggie.

Even though there wasn't a lot of sex or explicitness to it, it didn't lack in passion or emotion. And though it stirred up the emotions, it wasn't over the top angsty and dramatic. I loved the sexual tension between the two of them. It was slow building, but very real and genuine.

Our faces are inches from each other, and I'm having trouble breathing. In this moment he is my world and time ceases to exist elsewhere.

Out of nowhere, he ambushes me. Seizing my face in both of his hands, he leans into me and without warning his lips are on mine. My eyes widen as he eases my lips open. Instantly lost, I succumb, closing my eyes.

This book was exactly what I needed. Liv's wacky mother cracked me up, The twitter tweets at the beginning of each chapter were fun, the bantering, the sweetness, the whole fairytale vibe...I was feeling it. If you're in the mood for a musician book that doesn't have a manwhore, a fun and flirty book about the celebrity lifestyle, this may be the book for you. Read it!

Patrycja's Review: Bender by Stacy Borel

21971980

Title: Bender
Series: The Core Four #1
Author: Stacy Borel
Release Date: April 20, 2014
Rating: 4.25 stars
Cliffhanger:. No
All Keegan wanted was a roommate who was quiet, minded their own business, and paid for part of the rent. Instead, she got Camden Brooks.

Camden, with his sinful body, sharp tongue, and the inability to stay out of Keegan’s personal space, couldn’t seem to curb his interest in the new girl who wouldn’t put up with his domineering ways.

Feelings were running rampant, sexual tension was thick, and both were struggling to let go of control.

To some people, getting a roommate simply meant living with another person. But to both Camden and Keegan it was a curveball that neither was prepared to swing at.

Bender is my first time reading Stacy Borel’s work. Before starting it, I didn’t know what to expect. Frankly, I had no real idea what this story is about, but I decided to go for it. Being absolute cover whore, I was immediately in lust with this panty dropping guy in the middle of this one, so I totally had to read this. And I’m not regretting doing so! I had so much fun. I laughed, I swooned, I needed to fan myself with my ereader a couple of times, and yes I was frustrated and heartbroken, but overall, the positive aspects of this novel won me over.

This story is about twenty year old Keegan. She’s going to college to become a nurse, but she’s having hard time studying and focusing on her life, because she has to act like a parent toward her eight year old sister. She’s tired of constantly taking care of her sister and house, while her mother leads very ‘social’ life and takes no responsibility over her daughter. That’s why Keegan decides that it’s time to show her mother she has to act like an adult and suck it up. She moves out of her home to live with very broody, sexy gym owner, Camden. He’s dominant alpha male, that doesn’t take any bullshit.

The book gets very interesting and steamy as the characters grow closer. Especially because they share of the charts sexual chemistry but are too busy with fighting, name calling and teasing each other to realize they want more. This two nemesis, living under the same roof are ready to burn the house down to get what they want.

Bender is a book a reader either completely loves or hates. Why? Because as much as the plot was very dynamic and sexy, and the hero awesome, the heroine could be over the top and frustrating. She can ruin the story for most of the readers. Yes I confess, Keegan was very irritating, especially because of her insecurities… Almost every few pages, she mentioned how fat she was… She felt very unconfident about her curvy body. For many of the readers it can be a deal breaker… For me, fortunately it was something I could overlook, as I am trying to not to be hypocrite and judge her badly because I too am not exactly comfortable in my own skin. So I closed my eyes on that one.

On the other hand, even though Keegan could act immature and be serious pain the ass, she has had her moments. Her stubbornness was funny and adorable and I loved how crazy she acted while being next to Camden.

So maybe the heroine wasn’t the best, but the hero was one of the best yummy alpha male I’ve read about in quite some time. I instantly fell in love with Camden. He was awesome! So sexy, broody and god he knew how to win an argument. The banter between Camden and Keegan was amazing! So freaking hot and funny, I was grinning like an idiot for most of the book! I also liked Camden’s brothers. I definitely can’t wait to read their stories! I hope they would be awesome.

Summing up, I loved this story. The sexual chemistry was PERFECT. The sex AMAZINGLY HOT. The love/hate relationship Camden and Keegan had going on absolutely mesmerizing and funny. I recommend this book for those of you that can enjoy book even though heroine is annoying. But I promise, the hero is worth putting up with Keegan’s silly actions.
